Castro Valley MathCounts and AMC 8 Workshops

About

The Castro Valley Mathcounts and AMC 8 workshop is a student-led initiative that introduces middle school students to advanced math and competitions.

In this program, students will further their math education through team contests, individual work, and class discussions. Our goal is to provide a greater understanding of advanced math topics with an emphasis on analytical skills and creative problem-solving, which will prepare for the MathCounts and AMC 8 Competition.

Workshop Details

We will be offering a weekly MathCounts workshop for 3rd - 8th graders. This workshop will start on October 11th and last all the way to February. Students will be placed into groups accommodating to their level of mathematics proficiency.

When : Every Wednesday after school from 4 - 5 pm (lectures and activies) and 5 - 5:30 pm (overtime / questions)
Where : Mr. Wong’s room (Room 705) Enter through Gate 6

Competition Details

The MathCounts competition : Only allows 12 participants per school. We will have two schools participating, Canyon Middle and Creekside Middle. The competition is in February.

The American Math Competition 8 : This competition is for 8th graders and below. Everyone is welcome to participate in this competition. The competition is in January.

This program is called "Castro Valley Mathcounts". We will be forming a team for the MATHCOUNTS competition to represent Castro Valley.
