No, of course not! This club actually started as a community service initiative to tutor middle school students for math competitions. You are free to participate in whichever activities you like, although we do encourage you to try at least one math competition! They are more rewarding than you may think.
Unfortunately, we can not offer consistent volunteering opportunities this year. Due to schedule implications, we are not able to run the Mathcounts program on a weekly basis. We still offer ocassional opportunities (mostly on weekends) to tutor middles school students and host competitions such as CVJMT. Additional volunteer opportunities are still underway—we are working on reworking and expanding the Mathcounts program to include students from all over CVUSD, as well as creating opportunities to volunteer at STEM outreach events. Let us know if you have any ideas using the contact information posted here. They don’t have to be math-related; we’re open to all possibilities!
